PETROLEUM QUALITY INSTITUTE OF AMERICA TEST PROGRAM

The Petroleum Quality Institute of America (PQIA) is an independent resource for information and insights on the quality of lubricants in the marketplace. Our mission is to serve the consumer of lubricants by randomly sampling and independently testing lubricants taken from the field. Test results are posted along with the brand names on the PQIA website. This webpage provides an analysis on the brand detailed below.

The following are the test results for the sample examined.

Test Results and Assessment:

Updated 2-3-2016

Advisory: The API Service Category listed on the product label is OBSOLETE and is not suitable for use in most gasoline-powered automotive engines built after 1993. Oils meeting only the API SG specification may not provide adequate protection against build-up of engine sludge, oxidation, or wear in more modern engines. The label fails to give adequate warning of this limited use. Adding to this concern is that the levels of phosphorus and zinc (antiwear additive) in the sample tested are significantly lower than typical in a motor oil meeting an API SG Service Classification.

In addition, the Low-Temperature Cranking Viscosity (ASTM D-5293) at -30°C indicates the product is an SAE 5W-30, not an SAE 10W-30.

Note: Although laboratory tests alone cannot be used to establish if engine oil meets an API Service Category, they can be used to determine if it doesn't.
